Overseas Christ in all its fullness with East

Overseas
Missionary Fellowship (OMF) International is founded by James Hudson Taylor in June
25, 1865 as the China Inland Mission (CIM), and it led by our faithful God for
150 years. The organization first started in the unreached Inland provinces of
China, as the Asian Christian began to be accepted into the organization
membership, as the result, it slowly reached out to the nations of East Asia,
includes Japan, Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, and
Indonesia. In 1866, 24 workers were active in four stations across Inland,
China. They were preaching the gospel and planting churches. In 1888, the CIM
had sent 294 people to 14 provinces. In 1939, over 200,000 Chinese and minority
people had been baptized. It shows that the OMF International were taking the
gospel of Jesus in all its fullness. In 1990s, CIM organization changed to OMF
International.             “OMF
International is a diverse evangelical mission agency of more than 14,00
workers from 30 different countries and serving 100 people groups in East Asia”
(“OMF International”).

The organization ministry is expressed
through many evangelistic and mobilization strategies, focuses on seeing
individual lives and whole communities redeemed by the gospel. The OMF
mobilizes people to go, to pray or to take intentional steps toward God with
the aim of fulfilling his mission. The type of focused mission responsibilities
is “bible translation, missional business, church planting, local community
development, creation care both people and places, medical work, mobilization
in discipleship, personal evangelism, prayer group, serving third culture kids,
teaching or lecturing, and provide theological education” (“OMF
International”).

OMF International is an
inter-denominational and international fellowship serving in 14 East Asian
nations. The mission statement of OMF International is to reach the unreached
people of East Asia with the hope of the gospel: “We share the good news of
Jesus Christ in all its fullness with East Asia’s peoples to the glory of God.”
The vision is “through God’s grace, we aim to see an indigenous, biblical
church movement in each people group of East Asia, evangelizing their own
people and reaching out in mission to other peoples” (“OMF International”). The
work ethics they have is trusting in God for holy living, fruit in work and for
all the needs. They pursue the vision and mission together in order to support
and encourage each other. They also very passionate to reach the unreached, and
take prayerful risks and persevering with the task that God has given to them.
Besides that, they practice incarnational ministry to identify with the people
lifestyle, learning their culture, language, and worldviews. Not only this,
they partner in ministry with sending churches, missionaries, and mission
agencies globally. Additionally, they value diversity in unity, such as ethnic,
denominational, generational, personality, gifts, and gender. For this reason,
they trained to respect, love, care, and foster unity in Christ.

In addition, they also reach on globally
on host culture setting which they can reach the unreached by starting churches
in huge cities, towns, villages, and remote areas with the gospel of Christ. They
care for the specific uncared-for-sick people group in order to bring them
healing and wholeness in Him. They also work with the local Christians to
preach, teach, and train workers to share the good news of Christ. Despite of
the hardships, they try their best to become their friends and stay connected
from the grace of God.

The OMF International organization makes
me feel inspire is they are bravely reach out the unreached of East Asia,
especially in China, even though they knew they will be having a variety of
persecution and hardship. They are the Christian advocates for every people
group. Their faithfulness and kindness towards the people are incredible to
imagine that God’s grace is still fruitfully pouring among them. From what I
know of they aim to believe in the one, holy, sovereign God will give the
missionaries the gift to preach, convict, regenerate, sanctify, and empower
individuals in the need of redemption. They believe the joyful prospect of
eternal life is in the presence of God. As can be seen, they acknowledge the
presence of God is undeniable for the OMF International to grow in worldview. Not
only this, they are persevering and expanding their ministry to the domain of
international peoples. For this reason, I believe that OMF is a wonderful
organization dedicated to see indigenous biblical church movement in East Asia.
Beyond that, it is an ethical organization that whom God has used to witness
His truth to the world. Because of this, as an international student I am very
touched of their inspirational love and care reach out to the world that become
a blessing to many people. I love how OMF International shine the light and
salt to cross cultural, and they committed to glorify God in all their work and
relationships with the people. Their humble and integrity move the East Asian
to believe Jesus Christ as their savior. From the history that I researched,
their expansion throughout East Asia is remarkable and enormously unbelievable
to see the embarks through the missionary movements. Through God’s grace, the
organization did a very good job in bringing the gospels to many of the
countries in East Asia, and sharing the love of Christ to the glory of God. In
my opinion, I think OMF International did an excellent job in equipping the
missionaries to commit themselves in relying on God first through prayers, then
with the theological education they received, to guide the people to have
salvation.
