Domestic violence is one of the most major issues of today’s Lebanese society, as well as all over the world. Domestic violence can be defined as a pattern of behavior which involves violence or any other kind of abuse that is used in any relationships such as marriage, dating, cohabitation, family, or even friends where the partner uses his power in order to control the others in an abusive behavior through intimidation, fear, physical and emotional attacks. Domestic behavior has many names such as family violence, child beating, women beating, or family abuse. Domestic violence is not specific for certain families; it can happen to any person of any gender, race, or religion. However, this violence mainly faces women and children. According to a study done by the UNICEF association in 2016, three out of four women get abused by their husbands and every hour more than 100 children are being abused too. Also, females aged between 20 to 24 years old are the most victimized by this violence from their partners in Lebanese villages. But till now many women are still beaten up in the cities as well. All of these violent acts are contributed to many factors that will lead to many negative consequences on the society and the persons too.?Types of domestic violence:Domestic violence is a global crime that is being performed in many sorts of abuses. Domestic violence is usually known by being physically attacked from the partner and being beaten up so hardly. This physical violence also involves slapping, kicking, punching, or anything that causes injury to their partner. However, domestic violence does not always mean to be physically abused, the victim can be verbally assaulted by the intimidate partner. This verbal abuse involves saying things consistently that can harm the others which can cause the same damage to the person as a punch to the face. Also, these victims can be sexually abused. Even though they are different, we cannot neglect each type of these abuses where they are all damaging and must be stopped.?Causes of domestic violence:To begin with, domestic violence is mainly caused by being low educated. Every day we hear cases of domestic violence in a specific village in Lebanon. In rural areas or old villages the percentage of women being subjected to domestic violence is higher than that of cities because most of the men in these areas are of low education or illiterate, so they have no information that such violence is prohibited by the law. However, these people still have traditional believes that men have the whole power to control their women and children, and that they must not have equal rights to their men.In addition, some abusers have some psychological problems that they don’t know. Most of these abusers feel that they want to control their partners because they lack self confidence, and have low self esteem. They may also feel jealous if their woman has much higher education than them which results in having extreme anger that will lead to abuse their partner. On the other hand, drug and alcohol addiction may lead to violent behavior. Most drug users lose the control if they didn’t have the amount of drugs which makes them have violent behaviors toward their partner or even their kids. Also, many studies have shown that abusers have grown up in their houses where domestic violence was being performed all over. Consequently these children grew up on being abused by their parents. As if they were raised upon this bad concept where they think that violence is the only solution to everything they face in their lives. Finally, some financial problems and having money problems could be also factors for domestic violence. The person that is facing work issues and lack of money will definitely be stressed. Some people cannot control their stress unless they abuse their partners where they feel better in this way.?Effects of domestic violence on the children:• Children are the image of their parents. Studies have shown that children who are often abused tend to become abusers themselves too.• Children and women exposed to this domestic abuse will experience anxiety, fear, and unable to trust anyone.• Children and women will also be hopeless and unworthy.• Children and women will have low self esteem and low self confidence.• Children will also face emotional problems that will affect their relationships with their friends and lack of school performance?Solutions to stop this domestic violence: Victims of domestic violence must tell that they are being subjected to abusive behaviors. Many of these victims are afraid from the partner so they prefer to keep this problem in silence. However, many campaigns are being raised upon the awareness from such violence. Also, organizations are being made up too in order to help victims of all ages to stand up for themselves.”KAFA VIOLENCE” is a feminist, Lebanese, secular, non profitable, civil society organization that was established in 2005. It aims to eliminate all forms of violence against women .Also; it seeks to protect children from family violence.?Point of view:I believe that domestic violence is huge social issue that should be disappeared from our society. We as a society know how harmful and emotionally destructive for the victims to live in a violent home. Many people today also agree that it should be stopped from all areas in Lebanon because family should be the source of secure not violence.?Conclusion:Domestic violence is a large social issue that affects all of the society and must be taken into consideration. No matter what type of abuse people are being subjected to they are all harmful and should be stopped or else thousands of victims will be damaged.
